Roberta Anslow

My paternal grandfather was a well-known architectural sculptor in New York, who carved many of the stone embellishments located on the facades of the city’s buildings. During the 1920s, he was commissioned to carve the Mother Goose statue located Central Park. I’m thankful to my grandfather, as I believe his artistic and creative genes have been passed on to me. Initially, I concentrated on my technical abilities, as I majored in Computer Science and pursued a career in high tech. Currently; I’m a User Experience / User Interface Designer who envisions how other users experience websites and software applications. The technical side of me provides a vocation, while my artistic side provides recreation that is also becoming a vocation.

A few years ago, I bought my first digital SLR camera and invested in some good glass. Self-taught, photography has become a pleasant obsession. Now, I am hoping it will soon become a full-time profession. Presently, my photography concentrates in three categories:

  1. Youth baseball action shoots. I particularly love shooting pitchers as their facials expressions as the ball is released are priceless.
  2. Flora & Fauna. This primarily includes hummingbirds, woodpeckers, shore birds and various flowers.
  3. The Unusual. Like my New York series “Views from a Cab”, or my “Rods & Reels” series. Sometimes unusual items or scenes beg to have their picture taken.

I print primarily on canvas, which provides my photos with a painted quality. In addition, I format many of my photos as note cards printed on high quality Crane’s paper.

My work is located in client homes, workplaces, and I hope soon will be available in a well-known gift store on Cape Cod. In addition, my work has received several awards in local Art Exhibits.
